StatementI am interested in capturing objects and spaces that are visually available to the general public/population. By re-presenting them, I hope the viewer slows down their looking and examines what is already present in their lives, discovering beauty, detail, or interest.I try to provide an image that is balanced, neutral, and stark; to me this condition is neither negative nor positive until the viewer projects their own thoughts, emotions, or experiences onto the image. The photographs are a framework because of their balance between being empty/incomplete and full/complete. What remains is the possibility for the viewer to add to this framework, providing their own subject, or leaving it as it is, believing that what exists is a subject in itself. Lately I have exerted more control over the subject matter by removing common objects (cut out images, mushrooms, etc.) from their original context and placing them in starker more antiseptic settings, again with the intention of heightening the viewers experience with the subject.
