Carousels Burn
September 14 – October 6, 2019
Downstairs Main Gallery

Carousels Burn is an exhibition of large graphite drawings on paper by artist L. Hernandez Walls. Inspired by a bell-jar summer spent in bed watching Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s Carousel with her six-year-old daughter, Hernandez-Walls created a group of drawings conflating personal experience and feelings about our current state of affairs with the tired, timeless, and timed-out account of Louise, Julie, and Billy Bigelow.

Blake Weld, Chris Evans, Sean Lopez, and Zak Loyd
Mare’s Nest
September 14 - October 16, 2019
Upstairs Main Gallery

Mare’s Nest is a four person exhibition by artists Blake Weld, Chris Evans, Sean Lopez, and Zak Loyd that meditates on the payoff of repeat experiences and the humor of resolution. Humans spend their life chasing the experience of the first time, and the works exhibited are linked by the absurdity of recreating the original [experience]. The artists took a wide approach to this idea, exploring organized sports, consumerism, thrill rides, and the primordial ooze with a mixture of sculpture, video, photography, and stereography.

R ! P : R!p !n Publ!c
September 14 - October 16, 2019
Upstairs Project Space

Glass has existed for more than 4,000 years but in the past 60 years due to the innovation, research and experimentation of artists, such as Harvey K. Littleton, the Studio Glass movement was able to stray away from its utilitarian confine. R!P is an installation that invites others to consider the appropriate time to act and React. There’s a fine line between !nteraction and destruction but R!P has blurred it. Past comprehension in order to highlight the struggle in our own personal boundaries. Will the reaction/interaction create destruction or will it create a new form of itself?

Charles Gray (winner of College EXPO Juried Exhibition)
Gray Family
September 14 - October 16, 2019
Downstairs Member Space

“While on a website researching our family history, my mother may have found where parts of my family may have been traded for two chickens. In this body of work, I will be painting my family history. I am painting both how we were viewed and who we truly are. To them, my family name was worth the trade of two chickens. To us, we are royalty.”
