Michelle Cortez Gonzales is a mixed media artist. Her work examines the fragmentation of memory through alteration, reconstruction, and preservation. She combines sewing, painting, and constructing of domestic materials to create works that reference childhood, identity, and the complexities of cultural loss. Her work is deeply inspired by her own past and upbringing in Fort Worth, Texas where she currently lives and works.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Dallas. She is currently working with the Amon Carter Museum of American Art as a 2021 Community Artist.
